Trombonist/activist/composer/educator; Phil Ranelin has a lot to talk about. He came up with Freddy Hubbard; he played with Wes Montgomery in Indianapolis. He worked for Motown duing the heyday in Detroit and then had his own record label - in the sixties. He was in the studio yesterday for a great talk. I'll be posting that on Sunday, as usual.
Talking to tenor sax/flutist/scat-singer Sam Most next Monday, and expecting stories about Buddy Rich (although pretty much everyone has a Buddy story...) and my old friend and great late guitar master Al Viola. Leonard Feather called Sam Most the first "truly creative jazz flutist," and I won't disagree with that.
