Episode #2 - Lanny Morgan

Jeez...still having problems with the iTunes feed.  I dunno; everything's just gone to shit since Steve's not around to watch, I guess.  Meanwhile, I'm posting the audio files.  You can stream them here, or go to www.soundcloud.com/rickfle to stream or download.

Legendary alto sax-man Lanny Morgan came by today, chatting about his time with Maynard Ferguson, Charlie Barnet, Bob Florence, the Merv Griffin Show band, and the the club where the drums were nailed to the floor so the junkies wouldn't steal them.

Testing, 1-2-3

Thought this might make a good pic for iTunes.  Putting it here 'cause I'm having a tech problem getting the pic into my feed.  You don't wanna know; trust me on this.

New guest - Phil Ranelin

Well-traveled trombonist Phil Ranelin will be coming in to do a show in mid-December.  Maybe we'll talk about the time we worked on the old Drew Carey Show on ABC: I wrote some cues for a smaill jazz group that was also on-camera in the episode.  Everything seemed to be going great, but one of the producers got massively pissed off.  I dunno; the whole thing just took a left for a few hours.  As I recall it ended OK. Maybe Phil will remember the whole story.

Planning to work on the stream this weekend.  Meanwhile, go to iTunes and subscribe.

Episode #1 - Roy McCurdy

The great drummer Roy McCurdy has played with just about everybody, and he's still out there with Nancy Wilson, playing on the score of The Rum Diaries, teaching at USC. We talk about life on the road with Art Farmer/Benny Golson, the Mangione Brothers, Cannonball Adderly, Sarah Vaughn, Betty Carter, and Count Rabbitt and the Bunnies (really).

The pilot is done. No animals were harmed...

Recorded a pilot episode with a mystery guest, just to get the 1s and 0s running right.  Learned a lot, both about the guest and about the process of recording a podcast.  It's a long time since I've interviewed anyone, but I'm getting the hang of it back. Great examples out there, too - Leo LaPorte, Marc Maron, et al...

I'll throw this episode into the stream eventually and at that time I'll thank my interesting and patient guest. Luckily, he's also a good friend.  At least he was when we recorded the podcast... I think the content is really good though the sound quality won't match the later episodes.
